NOVEMBER 25, 2005 Like her father Bill McDonald, Dee is becoming a true globetrotter! Read about her experiences travelling to Okinawa Japan! (Dee´s email is dated November 20, 2005) Hi, I am here in Okinawa. Got here about 9:30 pm. Weather upon arrival was rainy. Today (it in Monday morning about 7:15 am. Shawn and the baby are on their way to day care and the office. Everyone else is asleep. JW will be going to school and Marcus to daycare to do. Tomorrow I might keep Marcus with me. On the trip over I couldn't sleep. The flight from Dallas to Osaka was just over 15 hours. I got to the airport in OKC early to get through the searches (2 hours), but it didn't take me very long. There was an earlier flight to DFW with room and I changed and got it. I was nervous about having only 1 1/2 hours between flights and changing planes, so I took it. The flight out of DFW to Oksaka was over 15 hours! Long time in the middle of 5 seats where everyone but me was asleep most of the time and I had to keep waking them up to go to the facilities. My blood pressure medicine sure helped on that flight. |
I had a guardinan Okinawaian who was flying from OKC to Okinawa to pick up his 2 daughters and
wife to take them back to OKC. He is going to school at OCU and we talked.
Thank goodness for him when we got to Osaka. I had to go though immigration and custums
and catch the connecting flight to Okinawa in under 2 hours. He found me after I got through
immigration (which took almost 1 hr and 15 minutes) and helped me get my luggage so I could
check it through to Okinawa. He was having to spend the night in Osaka because because the last plane from there was full. Most of the security people last night don't read or understand English very well so they put me into the wrong line to check though my luggage and get a boarding pass. With only a half hour before the flight to Okinawa left, Hi found me and got my luggage and myself over to the right airline and through security again. Made it with less than 15 minutes. I have to admit the plane probably would have left without me if Hi hadn't come back to check on me again. I got his name address and phone number in OKC so when I get back I can meet his family. I want to make sure their Christmas is an enjoyable one because he said he hadn't had time to meet many people in OKC. And he isn't a Christian but dones attend a Baptist Church near his home sometimes. The door maybe open, specially since his wife would like to attend English classes somewhere where she gets to the states. He is a very nice young man and I am sure his family is also.
Shawn and Justin and the kids were waiting for me in Okinawa outside the baggage claim area. The baby was alseep and once we got into the van, so were the boys. The live on the 8th floor of a 9 story high rise apt building. All living quarters are exactly the same for everyone here, officers and enlisted alike. The view from their balcony is of the ocean. But this morning it is over cast and gray outside. In DFW, Oksaka, and Okinawa, only passengers are allowed in the baggage claim areas. What an experince! Everyone just left and I will wait till the JW gets home from school today. We are going to the north side of the Island to spend Thanksgiving at a resort starting Wed night. Shawn said it was only 2 hours from here. |
